Our Leather & Materials
We use high quality, full grain, and soft bovine Australian leather on a majority of our Graine designs which we source from a Victorian tannery; these leathers are the by-product of the meat industry, as leather is a natural material our products can be recycled at the end of their life time.
This tannery has the highest rating from The Leather Working Group; LWG is made up of member brands, retailers, product manufacturers, leather manufacturers, chemical suppliers and technical experts that have worked together to develop an environmental stewardship protocol specifically for the leather manufacturing industry. We have worked very closely with this tannery for many years and also visit them regularly. Knowing that the leather was sourced and produced locally in a sustainable way with a focus on minimising environmental impact adds great value to our leather goods.
Our Rathdowne Roller belt is made from premium Italian vegetable leather; sourced from the Tuscany tanning region of Italy which has been dyed with natural tannins. Each belt will mature and develop a natural patina over time with wear.
Leather is a natural product and at Graine we believe in conserving the environment and we use as much of the leather hide as possible in all of our designs.
Please note: each hide we use on our designs can vary slightly in texture or colour and may not look exactly like the product images.
We use YKK as a supplier of our zippers; YKK tries to reduce its environmental impact by creating zips from recycled materials. YKK is part of the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals Initiative (ZDHC), which aims to reduce usage of hazardous chemicals and their discharge into the environment, and won the Biodiversity Protection Award in 2014 for environmental stewardship.

PACKAGING & TRIMS
To reduce waste in our packaging each Graine bag is packed into a cotton bag which we source from an Australian supplier. The cotton bag can be used to store the leather bag in which helps to maintain the original quality of the leather bag for as long as possible.
We avoid leather wastage by making our logo-embossed swing tags and bag tabs from our leather hide off-cuts.
We are avid supporters of local businesses, local talent and home grown products and strive to be environmentally friendly and ethical as possible.
Please do not hesitate to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
